Custom Product Boxes & Packaging

Custom product boxes designed to elevate your brand, increase perceived value, and stand out on the shelf. From concept to production, we create packaging tailored to your business.

Purpose-Built Packaging That Controls How Your Product Is Perceived

A retail buyer pulls your product off the shelf, turns the box over, and decides in seconds whether it looks like a $12 item or a $24 one. An e-commerce customer opens a mailer and either remembers your brand or forgets it by the next delivery. Custom product boxes give you control over both of those moments — and the difference between generic packaging and purpose-built packaging shows up directly in perceived value, repeat purchases, and shelf presence.

At United GMG, we design and produce custom product boxes for businesses across retail, e-commerce, cosmetics, food and beverage, health and wellness, and more. With 100+ years of experience in print and packaging, we work with you from concept through production — whether you need a short run to test a new product or a high-volume order to support a national launch.

What Custom Product Boxes Are Used For

Custom product boxes are not a single product — they are a category that spans retail shelf packaging, e-commerce shipping inserts, gift sets, subscription boxes, and display-ready packaging for point-of-sale environments. The right box depends on where your product is sold, how it is shipped, and what experience you want the customer to have when they open it.

Retail & Shelf Packaging

Retail & Shelf Packaging

Shoppers make purchase decisions in seconds. Packaging that blends in is packaging that loses. Custom printed boxes with your brand colors, typography, and product imagery give your product a competitive edge on crowded shelves.

E-Commerce & Unboxing

For direct-to-consumer brands, the box is the delivery experience. Custom inserts, interior printing, and premium finishes turn a shipping moment into a brand moment that drives repeat purchases and social sharing.

Gift & Premium Packaging

Higher-ticket products and gift sets require packaging that communicates value before the product is even seen. Rigid setup boxes, soft-touch coatings, and custom structural designs signal quality and justify premium price points.

Trade & B2B Presentation

Samples, product kits, and sales tools sent to buyers and partners benefit from packaging that reflects the professionalism of your brand. A well-produced product box tells the recipient that quality matters at every touchpoint.

Materials, Sizes & Finishing Options

Every product box starts with three decisions: material, structure, and finish. Getting these right determines how the box performs in transit, on the shelf, and in the customer's hands.

Materials Best For Key Properties
Paperboard Retail, cosmetics, food, health products Lightweight, printable, recyclable — ideal for folding carton structures
Corrugated Cardboard E-commerce, heavier products, shipping-ready boxes Protective, stackable — available in single and double-wall grades
Kraft Natural/organic brands, sustainable positioning Unbleached, recyclable — pairs well with minimal print designs
Rigid Chipboard Premium products, gift sets, luxury packaging Heavyweight, non-collapsing — premium feel and appearance

Prototype Before You Commit

Before you order 5,000 retail boxes, you should hold one in your hand. We produce physical prototypes so you can evaluate how the box fits your product, how the print looks on the actual material, and how the structure performs on shelf or in transit. Available as a standalone prototype service or as part of a full production project.

Itemized Quotes, No Surprises

Product box quotes involve material, structure, finishing, and quantity — and each one affects cost differently. We itemize every line so you can see exactly where your budget is going and make trade-off decisions (matte vs. gloss, paperboard vs. corrugated) with real numbers, not guesses.

In-Person Proofing, Chicago-Based

Product box proofing is better in person — you can feel the material weight, check the color under real lighting, and test the structural fit with your actual product. We're based in Mt. Prospect, IL, and serve brands throughout the Chicago area. Local means you can walk a proof before approving a full run.

Production Timelines You Can Plan Around

Product launches, retail rollouts, and seasonal campaigns don't wait. We establish production timelines at the start of every project — accounting for material sourcing, finishing complexity, and quantity — so your boxes arrive when your go-to-market plan says they should.

Exact Brand Color on Every Box

Your product box sits next to your website, your social media, and your retail display. If the blue is off, customers notice. We color-match every print run to your Pantone references or brand guidelines — and we proof the color before scaling production.

Good to Know

Custom Product Box FAQs

What information do I need to request a quote?

Your product dimensions (height, width, depth), approximate quantity, preferred material (paperboard, corrugated, rigid), any finishing requirements (lamination, foil, spot UV), and your target delivery date. If you’re early in the process and don’t have all of these, that’s fine — our team can help you work through the options.

Can you produce a prototype before the full run?

Yes. We offer prototype packaging as a standalone service. You’ll receive a physical sample built to your exact dimensions, printed on the actual material, with any finishing applied — so you can test how your product fits, how the box looks on shelf, and how it performs in transit before committing to a full production run.

What file formats do you accept for artwork?

We accept print-ready PDF, AI (Adobe Illustrator), and EPS files. For product boxes, artwork needs to be set up on a dieline — the structural template that maps your design to the flat sheet before it’s folded. If you don’t have a dieline, we provide one for your specific box dimensions and structure before you begin design work.

How long does production take?

Turnaround depends on the box structure (folding carton vs. rigid setup), finishing services (lamination, foil stamping, spot UV), and order quantity. A standard corrugated mailer with full-color print runs faster than a rigid box with foil and magnetic closures. We establish a specific timeline at the start of every project — contact us with your target delivery date and we’ll confirm what’s achievable.

Can you match our brand colors?

Yes. We use color-matched print processes to ensure consistency with your brand standards. Share Pantone references or existing brand guidelines with your quote request.
